About Us
Welcome to Aalamwaar!
In recent years, the environmental movement has regenerated a strong interest in natural dyes and products. The trend of reverting to nature and its bounty of offerings is finding hold in larger numbers throughout the world. These textile dyeing and printing arts with natural dyes and their continued contributions to world culture can be revived and sustained if undertaken in a manner which is economically viable and favorable for all stakeholders including the artisans and their families, manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
We believe this can be achieved and have defined our mission as follows:
“To preserve, document, sustain and promote hand-dyeing, hand-block printing, hand-weaving and hand-painting arts of natural fabrics in South India.”
With environment and sustainability as our priorities, Aalamwaar’s textiles are a testament to socially responsible business practices.
Aalamwaar’s design team led by Ms. Viji Reddy specializes in designs incorporating elements from Europe, Asia and Africa, and the age-old dyeing and hand-painting techniques in South India. We use only natural fabrics, which are carefully sourced from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and small producers throughout India. Each piece of fabric is hand-dyed and hand block-printed or hand-painted, and finished at our production facilities in Hyderabad, India. Our mission enables artisans in remote villages in South India to continue the practice of age-old traditional fabric arts (e.g. Kalamkari – art of hand-painted fabrics) to create contemporary garments, fashion accessories and home furnishings hand crafted with natural fabrics and natural dyes.
We invite you on this journey into the extraordinary world of natural dyes and celebrating this beautiful testimony of human ingenuity and imagination.
